Zero Ebola Initiative
As stories of the Ebola crisis in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia have become far and few, many are under the impression that the Ebola crisis is over. Miss. Universe Ghana 2014, Abena Appiah’s Zero Ebola, I am African NOT Ebola initiative has kicked it’s efforts into high gear to bring awareness to the difficulties facing the Ebola stricken countries of West Africa. These difficulties include caring for those stricken by the virus, protecting the community and healthcare workers proving care for those infected by the Ebola virus, educating those in the border towns of neighboring countries as to the real signs and symptoms and prevention of Ebola and making provisions for those who have lost everything including their homes, jobs and families to Ebola.
At the recent Face2Face Africa I Am an African Professional event at the Carlton Hotel in New York City many young professional Africans and African Americans came together to support Miss. Appiah’s social media awareness portion of this initiative by saying to the world in one voice through pictures “ Zero Ebola – I am African NOT Ebola”.

The Zero Ebola initiative for West Africa is a joint strategic partnership between New Generation for Africa Foundation and the Miss Universe Ghana’s women empowerment program that aims to provide effective early preventative intervention for Ebola through education, delivering expert training, establishing a system of care for the survivors of Ebola and minimizing the spread of incorrect information to vulnerable women and children in the affected areas.
